Burglar Alarm Foils Atlantic City Break-In

A burglar alarm helped foil a break-in in Atlantic City, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, officers responding to a residential burglar alarm located a male and a female inside the residence and recovered a stolen handgun, police said.

At 6:30 p.m., Officers John Bell and Dylan Imbrenda responded to a residence in the 1500 block of north Michigan Avenue in reference to a residential burglar alarm. After conducting a check of the perimeter, the officers discovered an open window on the side of the residence.

After further investigation, the officers observed a male, Janai Gibbs, and a 17-year-old female, inside the residence attempting to conceal themselves. Gibbs was found in possession of a defaced handgun that had been reported stolen out of New York. He was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian.

Gibbs, 19, of Atlantic City. was charged with weapons offenses and criminal trespass. He was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
